World Class Defence Organisation based in Bristol, Stevenage and Bolton (you can be based from either site, depending on your preference) is currently looking to recruit a UK IM Infrastructure Capacity & Performance Manager subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract.

Hourly Rate: £65.00ph (Umbrella)

Contract Duration: 12 Months initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter.

UK IM Infrastructure Capacity & Performance Manager Job Description:

The ideal candidate for this job would be expert at Capacity Management and Performance (CPM) analysis of ‘on-premise’ physical and virtual infrastructure components such as servers, storage and the applications and databases that run on those components. In addition, you will also be highly capable of monitoring and analysing performance issues within Network and Cloud environments.

You are also extensively experienced in using systems management tools and data sources for the purpose of Performance Monitoring and Analysis; Capacity Management.

You will be a practitioner and champion for ITIL Capacity Management Process supporting ITIL service management best practices.

This opportunity will require the successful candidate to define, establish and operate a Capacity and Performance Management discipline. This will include the need to market and promote the requirements and the importance of the discipline across the decision makers and consumers in the UK. The candidate will collaborate widely with other service owners in the UK and in other countries and will also work closely with our MSP’s.

High-level responsibilities and deliverables will include:

• Define & Establish:
  • Create high-level process & flows with supporting documentation that describes the To-Be process for CPM. This includes tools, data sources and CPM management reporting
  • Create high level guide that describes the performance monitoring and analysis techniques to be used to create performance baselines for all the in-scope devices
  • Create and give presentations to service owners and suppliers to market and promote the Capacity & Performance Management function; it needs, outputs, dependencies and benefits
  • Create a CSIP Plan for the CPM function
• Execute:
  • Understanding of the current usage of the infrastructure and IT services, and the maximum capacity of each component
  • Liaise with Incident and Problem management to assess impact of Capacity related threshold breaches
  • Accumulate information for all new or changed infrastructures and define expansion requirements
  • Perform trend analysis, estimate overall growth (decrease) of user demand

Operational Role:

• The will monitor and analyse capacity consumption; generate capacity and performance reporting and be responsible for ensuring that services and infrastructure are able to deliver the agreed service level targets for capacity and performance in a cost effective and timely manner (Service & Component Capacity management).
• Work with service owners, suppliers and Business Leads to create a Demand Management (Business Capacity) process that also realises the delivery of forecasted/predicted Capacity Services that meet the combined capacity forecast.
• Provides provide analysis and reporting on Capacity Management Processes to IM & IS functional areas, with information related to services and resource capacity, utilisation and performance. The role is also responsible for creating and managing the repository/access of all Capacity Management data.
• Will support the design, agreement and implementation of the relevant Service Model standards and processes across all relevant suppliers and project teams
• Will work with the suppliers to understand consumption with the aim of assuring utilisation of IM Services and the reduction or redistribution of any overcapacity to ensure the best possible value for money.
• They will forecast the capacity of operational services. This will include initiating proactive and reactive action to ensure that the performances and capabilities of services meet their agreed targets.
• They will have oversight and responsibility for the Capacity plan covering scenarios for different predictions of business demand and cost options to deliver the agreed service target levels.

• They will feed into the forming procurement strategies to optimize technology spend across the organization.
• Ensure the continuous review of services and service affecting capacity management to formulate improvements and remediation activities to enhance services and provide additional value for money.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

• Extensive knowledge, understanding and subject matter expertise including but not limited to:
  • Availability, Capacity and Performance Management principles and methodology
  • System Management technologies
  • ITIL V4 Foundation qualified
• Proven track record of running an effective Capacity and Performance Management function
• Capable of establishing a Capacity and Performance Management service
• Familiarity with Project Management Approaches and the project delivery life cycle
• Familiarity with the SDLC (Service Delivery Life Cycle)

Desirable:

• Operational capability in Systems monitoring tools and data sources required for the resources and services in scope for the role (examples such as SCOM, SCCM, Nagios, NetAppIQ, VMware, Nexthink, Prometheus/Grafana)
• Familiarity with complex Excel functions, PowerBI and other tools used for data analysis, organisation and presentation.
