Technician [Geospatial] Salary Details: £22,575 – £24,924pa
An exciting role has become available for a Technician within the busy Structures & Street Lighting Team, Highways and Transport. The role is to assist in the provision of a comprehensive geospatial service (topographical and engineering)
Key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Assisting with the provision of a comprehensive geospatial service (topographical and engineering), including the development of a programme of projects to suit the needs of the internal and external commissioners.
- Assisting with the preparation of geospatial surveys, with the provision of a setting-out service for construction works and with the preparation of quotations based on briefs from external commissioners.
- Assisting with the management of the geospatial equipment, including service intervals.
- Assisting in the preparation and letting of contracts.
- The completion of schemes to agreed costs and time targets.
- Complying with all Quality Management Systems, quality procedures and working practices and, as a duty holder representing LCC, you must ensure compliance with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) to ensure all projects are carried out in a way that secures health and safety.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A-levels in Maths and English.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Good IT skills, including the ability to learn the use of service specific systems and software.
- The ability to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets and have good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work.
- The ability to interpret maps, plans and engineering drawings
It would be desirable if you have:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent qualification) in Land Surveying or other relevant subjects OR demonstrable evidence of the skills and experience as outlined in the job description, together with a commitment to attain the essential qualifications.
- Experience of carrying out geospatial surveys using high precision Total Stations with reflectorless EDM and Global Positioning System equipment and of recording and manipulating geospatial data.
- Experience of using AutoCAD or similar to produce drawings.
- Worked in an engineering setting, including design, management, maintenance or administrative processes in relation to highways infrastructure or in a commercial environment delivering projects to time, cost and quality.
- Knowledge of Geospatial data collection and analysis technologies and current legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the service.
