Looking for Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description at Bristol Full Time
We are recruiting for an exciting position within an award-winning VC backed well-funded Bristol based technology start-up. The successful candidate will be joining a small engineering team, developing and refining a new, unique composites manufacturing tool. They will play a key role in the success of an innovative carbon fibre OEM that will have significant impact in pushing forward both the performance and green credentials of many industries such as automotive, aerospace, and renewable energy.
iCOMAT aims to provide our customers with an end-to-end solution to carry out advanced manufacturing of carbon fibre parts. iCOMAT is developing hardware and software to enable the commercialisation of its Rapid Tape Shearing (RTS) fibre steering technology to supply fast, reliable, and repeatable 2D and 3D tape laying capability.
Our ideal candidate will have a degree level qualification in a relevant subject and several years of experience designing automated machinery. Experience of 3D Cad, producing and maintaining engineering documentation systems as well as using design analysis tools would be beneficial.
Requirements
Objectives of this Role
Contribute to design reviews to drive forward the capability of the iCOMAT tool.
To refine prototype designs to robust, reliable production ready assemblies
Generate and maintain all associated engineering documents required for manufacture
Responsibilities and Duties
Working with the engineering team to turn concept into well-structured cost effective designs
Maintaining engineering documents and BOM’s
Managing design quality control processes, checking and reviewing the work of others.
Support engagement with suppliers and subcontractors and undertake technical reviews of their design.
Appreciate the balance of time, cost and quality.
Support during build and commissioning of new designs.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Experience of 3D modelling (Solidworks preferable, other software packages will be considered)
Experience of generating 2D drawings to ISO/BS 8888
Excellent understanding of tolerancing and application to ensure smooth assembly processes
Knowledge of standard machine components
Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes (Tuning, Milling, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing etc)
Knowledge of good engineering practices around engineering documentation, maintaining revision histories and BOMs
Ability to carry out hand calculations to verify concepts
Awareness of machinery safety related to CE marking.
