A small international NGO is seeking a fully-qualified accountant for a 7 month fixed term contract role on a part-time basis, to start on 23rd January 2023.
The organisation focuses on community development and the integrity of services & infrastructure in developing countries, and the successful applicant will be joining the organisation at a point of significant change.
The role is part-time (3 days per week) and can be done mostly remotely. It is anticipated that you will need to be in the office in London for approximately one day per week.
The role involves hands-on production of management accounts & budgets, production of year-end accounts for audit, donor reporting, liaising with programmes finance, and managing one Finance Assistant. Prior experience with systems migrations/implementations would be useful.
Prior charity sector experience, ideally within an NGO setting is required.
A fully-qualified ACA, CIMA or ACCA accountant is an essential requirement.
There is the possibility that the role may turn into a permanent role after the contract finishes, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Key duties include:
-Monitor and report progress against Annual budget
-If needed and working closely with CEO, prepare medium term forecasts
-Prepare monthly management accounts
-Regularly reconcile accounts and ensure finances are managed as required in the Finance policy and procedures
-Work closely with the CEO in all aspects of financial alignment in potential pursuit of group integration
-Work closely with the Programme Development and Operations teams to monitor and reforecast project budgets
-Manage financial aspects of donor contracts: understanding and supporting development of appropriate terms in new proposals and overseeing review of financial reports received from partner organisations
-Ensure procurement procedures are followed and documented
-Manage the Finance and Governance Assistant
-Lead on the migration of current finance system to a larger group finance system
-Lead on change of financial year-end from September to June
-If required, be first point of contact with external HR consultant, to ensure good employer practices and compliance with relevant legislation
-Review contracts with third parties
Candidate requirements:
-Qualified Accountant
-Knowledge of Charities SORP, charitable finance regulations and key strategic finance reporting
-Previous experience of running a charity finance function including payroll, payments, banking arrangements, management accounts preparation, audit and other accounting transactions, setting and adhering to proper controls and processes
-Experience of preparation of management and annual accounts
-Experience and understanding of institutional fund reporting, budgeting and forecasting in a charitable context
-Experience of liaison with external auditors and management of an annual audit process
-Experience in working with programme managers and partner organisations on financial aspects of grants/projects
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum pro-rata
