MGER Looking for Technical Manager Building Management Systems at Manchester , Lancashire Full Time

Our client, the UK’s leading independent Engineering and Services business founded in 1921, with a turnover of £500m and 3000 employees, are now looking for a Technical Manager specialising in Building Management Systems (BMS) to join their Engineering team. The successful candidate could be based at any of their UK offices (Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham).

The main purpose of the role is to lead, own and manage the technical risk and opportunities within the business, from inception through to project completion and client handover, focusing on design optimisation, opportunity identification and mitigation of technical risk. Ensure technical compliance with works information, scope, project specification and legislation, undertaking technical management of both internal and external designs.

You will be involved in a range of MEP Building Services projects across the UK for a range of public and private sector clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate appropriate Health and Safety leadership to ensure that the safety first and foremost message is visible and alive throughout all activities relating to the project on which you are working.
• Lead the technical engineering management on internally and externally designed projects to successfully achieve company, team and individual objectives relating to; the implementation of best value design, management of opportunities and risk mitigation. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development from a technical solution perspective.
• Assist the Regional Design & Engineering Manager in the production of technical management fees for internally and externally designed projects. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of technical management costs, values and programme forecasts; seeking opportunities to suggest actions which mitigate risk and maximise profitability.
• Prepare monthly project reports for Senior Stakeholders highlighting progress, risks, opportunities, and resource issues. Advise on commercial progress against plan, any variances from plan and the corrective actions being taken. On external designs, take ownership of the completion of the responsibilities matrix of the Engagement of Consultant Pack, ensuring that scope gaps are mitigated.
• Conduct regular independent design/technical reviews of both internal and external designs in accordance with the technical review process, ensuring that both internal and external designs are technically correct and represent best value and comply with all legal and contracted requirements.
• Apply current legislation regarding building regulations, standards, CDM, quality control, commissioning, safety & environmental issues relating to all building services activities.
• Build and maintain mutually beneficial customer, key supplier and internal relationships. Promote the design team and actively seek out new opportunities. Communicate proactively with project stakeholders to improve our collaboration with operational teams.
• Support the Principal Technical Manager in the identification, delivery and attendance of CPDs, ensuring that the development of the design/technical team’s competence is maintained. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development, actively promoting our technical capability.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in BMS design / technical management including;

o Development of points schedules

o Production of description of operations

o Understanding of BMS Software

o Knowledge of BMS and PLC systems

o Witnessing of Testing and commissioning

o Project or Package Management

o Cost analysis or Commercial Awareness

o Influencing mechanical and electrical design

• A Degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
