Job Title: ICT Telemetry Systems Administrator

About the Role: 

The role of the ICT Telemetry Systems Administrator, as part of the ICT Telemetry Development Team, will involve the provision of domain administration, Active Directory management and monitoring, system patching, system backups, maintaining records of hardware inventory and general Operational Technology (OT) systems administration. 

Role Responsibilities: 

Management and development of the Telemetry Data Network (TDN)

• Maintain efficient operation of all TDN servers and client workstations by system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, and reviewing system and application logs. 
• Utilise problem solving skills to resolve problems and issues that arise across all TDN servers and client workstations, reconfiguring patches as required to ensure problems are addressed. 
• Administer the TDN Domain via the MS server network, including the administration of Active Directory to allow users to access the network.
• Schedule, manage and validate data backups of the system. 
• Implement monthly patching processes utilising offline Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
• Download and deploy weekly and adhoc Antivirus patches and updates.
• Prepare information relating to patching, capacity, service availability, failures and other areas as required for the monthly Service Management Information reports, considering the automation of reporting where possible.

Installation and Maintenance of the Telemetry Data Network (TDN)

• Manage the installation of the monthly and quarterly MS Server patches, including download, configuration, testing, initial deployment and the final deployment across the network, troubleshooting and ensuring usability of the patches. 
• Arrange maintenance services relating to hardware disposal.
• Ensure that TDN and all associated applications are available, functioning and fit-for-purpose during a major incident.

Telemetry Data Network (TDN) Projects and Consultancy

• Provision of consultancy on TDN to Asset Delivery, C&OD, Business Improvement & their third-party contractors, bringing knowledge of TDN hardware and software requirements to ensure team can delivery their projects.
• Provide specialist design and technical input, producing high quality design and procedural documentation on all TDN related projects. 
• Supervise telemetry enhancement projects & contracts that utilise the TDN, ensuring that work is delivered to the agreed standard. 
• Conduct an analysis of current training needs and manage the delivery of all training to meet the specific needs of various stakeholders within NI Water.

Decision Making and Planning

• Map, plan and develop TDN processes for each financial year and price control period.
• Contribute to annual hardware and hosting reviews and budgets.
• Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
• Investigate the consolidation of new technologies to identify areas of improvement and cost reductions so these can be considered at senior levels when agreeing any future strategies.
• Develop and manage the detailed forward planning of specific project tasks to ensure the co-ordination of internal resources and 3rd party suppliers, thus ensuring minimal disruption to the operation of the TDN and associated services. This includes planning for short, medium and long term milestones ranging from 6 months to 5 years during the PC21 implementation period.

General ICT Responsibilities

• Participate on a Telemetry standby 24/7 on-call rota, working unsupervised and managing faults when on-call. 
• Monitoring and assisting with Telemetry Development inbox work requests .
• Contributing to the cyber security plan and cyber security activities, leading on the areas related to the TDN. 
• Assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of the NI Water telemetry database, associated applications and related productivity tools for the wider business.
• Contribute positively to the activities of the Information Services Directorate and the company as a whole.
• Undertake out-of-hours work if required both scheduled or as part of a major incident.
• Conduct other Telemetry BAU duties as required.

Budget and People Management Responsibilities 

• The post holder will support the budget holder in budget management and forecasting.
