Project Engineer – Electrical / P C & A
Randstad Engineering are currently recruiting for a Project Engineer (Electrical) to come and work for TATA Steel in Port Talbot.
This position is paying up to £50,000 per annum.
The role is a full-time position on an initial 12 month contract working 36.5 hours per week.
1. PURPOSE OF JOB
To be responsible for the project engineering of major and minor capital schemes as well as
departmental based projects through the concept, definition and implementation stages until
handover. Responsibilities include ensuring that agreed, Safety, technical, financial and time
parameters are adhered to, and the most up-to-date technological concepts applied throughout the
total project thus achieving physical assets specifications commensurate with attaining the most
economic and efficient cost standards and performance in terms of yield on capital. In addition the
role is to assist the Project Manager with the undertaking of the various Project Management tools
in line with the Project Manual.
2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
– To lead or form part of an engineering team able to deliver each project to a successful conclusion.
The role may include responsibility for coordinating and controlling all engineering activities on the
project or undertaking an engineering role in a specific discipline or area. Determining factors for
allocation of the engineering role this will be Experience, Project size, complexity and business risk.
– Familiarise him/herself with, and to implement as it applies to his/her activities or fails within his/her
sphere of control, the companies Health and Safety policy and relevant statutory duties.
– In particular to ensure high levels of Health & Safety management during all Project Stages
including full compliance with the Process Safety Process, CDM Compliance and compliance with
appropriate legislation.
– Implement procedures to define and quantify the purpose of the new plant/equipment specifying
results expected and to broadly determine the size, shape, location and maintenance budget for
the proposed plant/equipment, balancing capital cost and running costs against expected profits.
– Maintain and develop knowledge of national & international industry standards and where
appropriate knowledge of assigned technology area(s) to exert influence for Tata Steel. The role is
to ensure awareness of potential developments and developing strategies for their insertion where
relevant into the business.
– To negotiate with prospective Contractors in conjunction with the procurement department with
regard to Commercial aspects prior to any contract placement. The negotiation should ensure the best Commercial advantage to the business. Post contract placement the role will include for
managing and expediting the Contract to a successful conclusion.
– Evaluate design proposals from both contractors and Tata Engineers designing out or minimising
maintenance, and ensure and sound detailing to assist in maintenance planning, taking account of
health and safety needs, identifying hazards and introducing safeguards at an early stage.
– Liaise with production and maintenance personnel ensuring an effective cross flow of relevant data
with manufacturers/suppliers thus ensuring the finalisation of optimum design details for the
production of new plant/equipment to the right specifications within agreed financial parameters
and quality standards and to assist in determining spares requirements/procurement.
– Prepare plans for the Installation and commissioning of capital plant/equipment.
– Implement, in conjunction with works management, the erection installation and commissioning of
new plant co-ordinating the activities of all support services, monitoring and agreeing changes to
plans ensuring that design modifications introduced during commissioning/running in are recorded
and drawings up dated.
– Ensure the provision of specific installation/operation manuals and in conjunction with the training
department, appropriate courses for operating and maintenance personnel.
– Plan, sequence and organise all operations associated with the project as regards timing, storage
of equipment, agreeing of Plant Down times with management. Provision of services to contractors
and allocation of site areas, and any ultimate responsibility for the contractors work.
– Liaise with Plant area following handover to ensure outstanding snagging work is completed and
the plant and equipment achieves capable process.
– Direct, lead, coach, develop and motivate assigned team members to ensure the accountabilities of
the team are delivered and to ensure the creation of an effective team and continuous
improvement ethos.
– Align their teams priorities to the relevant business goals to enable to the most effective utilisation
of their time / skills.
– To cooperate with and to assist the Project Manager & Controller in following the appropriate steps
in the Project Manual and in the execution of Project management tools such as stakeholder
analysis; risk, issue and change control; Schedule adherence; Scope, Budget and Cost Control;
Project Reporting and Administration.
