The Welsh Institute of Physical Activity, Health and Sport (WIPAHS) has been created to increase the research capacity of Sport Wales in collaboration with Universities across Wales, with the aim of promoting the health benefits associated with sport, physical activity and recreation. The successful candidate will be based at Swansea University Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences working in a multidisciplinary environment creating internationally leading research and delivering high quality teaching. Academic staff in the Department are part of the Applied Sports, Technology, and Exercise as Medicine (A-STEM) Research Centre.
The main project that the Research Assistant will be involved in is as follows: Sport Wales are evaluating a programme called “60 Plus Offer: Active Leisure Scheme”. The long-term aim of the programme is to enable the 60 years plus population in Wales to live longer, better, and happier lives by improving their physical activity levels, confidence, strength and balance. This project will evaluate the current programme and inform future iterations through the exploration of : (i) whether the programme is achieving its long-term aim, (ii) the value generated by the programme and whether this provides a compelling case for a longer-term offer, and (iii) what the benefits and challenges of operating the programme are and how this vary on a local and regional level. The intention is to provide a report on the findings which can then be used by Sport Wales, stakeholders, and academics to promote opportunities for the 60 plus population to be active.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate evidence of independently leading research, a demonstrable knowledge of physical activity, health and/or sport promotion and the ability to project manage and meet required deadlines to ensure all deliverables are met.
A satisfactory DBS certificate must be provided before a start date is confirmed.
