University of Central Lancashire Looking for PhD (via MPhil) Studentship: Understanding and Responding to Stalking at PhD Full Time
Applications are invited for a 3 year, funded PhD (via MPhil) studentship in the Connect Centre for International Research on Interpersonal Violence and Harm, in the School of Social Work, Care and Community at the University of Central Lancashire.
The PhD study will contribute to the prevention of and interventions targeting the stalking of women and children by examining the experiences of victims and the service response. The successful candidate will contribute to defining the scope of the study and will benefit from collaboration with Paladin, the national stalking advocacy service.
The successful candidate will be supervised by a team led by Professor Nicky Stanley. They will benefit from involvement with an active group of researchers and PhD students in the Connect Centre for International Research on Interpersonal Violence and Harm. The Connect Centre undertakes research on gendered violence to adults and children across the lifecourse.
The studentship is tenable for up to 3.5 years full-time (subject to satisfactory progress). The studentship will provide an annual stipend of £17,668 for 3.5 years. Both UK/Home and EU/International Applicants may apply but Tuition Fees will only be covered at the UK/Home rate for up to 3.5 years. EU/International Applicants would be expected to pay the difference between the UK/Home fee rate and EU/International fee rate. Other Allowances include up to £5,000 per annum bench fees.
The successful applicant is expected to commence March 2023.

Understanding and Responding to Victims of Stalking
Project Description:
Stalking is an under-researched phenomenon with policy and practice in the UK heavily reliant on media coverage of high-profile cases. Parliamentary debate has highlighted the lack of support available for victims. This study will aim to enhance public and professional understanding and inform the service response by exploring some key questions including: stalking’s relationship with domestic abuse, perpetrators’ histories and profiles, impacts on victims, their children and the wider family, implications for the workplace and identifying key features of criminal justice and advocacy responses to stalking.
The student and the supervisory team will benefit from a partnership with Paladin National Stalking Advocacy Service based in East Lancashire.
