Vacancy Ref: 106311
Salary: Grade 6/7, £30,502 – £34,308/£37,474 – £42,155 per annum
This post is full time and fixed term until 30 April 2024.
We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant/Associate to make a leading contribution to the project: ‘ROS via RET: a redox-regulated pathway to extend lifespan’ supported by Wellcome. You will conduct, manage and publish research in the biology of ageing.
The laboratory has characterised the first site-specific ROS signalling pathway, which regulates animal lifespan: mitochondrial ROS produced via reverse electron transport (ROS-RET) at respiratory complex I.
The successful candidate will work towards fully characterising this new anti-ageing signalling pathway by addressing three aims: (i) identify proteins involved in the initiation, amplification and neutralisation of ROS-RET using both hypothesis and non-hypothesis approaches (e.g. proteomics), (ii) understand when and where ROS-RET needs to be activated to extend lifespan using state-of-the-art technology to edit the fly genome, and (iii) dissect the epigenetic and metabolic changes associated with ROS-RET signalling producing and analysing RNAseq and metabolomics data respectively.
The School contains a multi-disciplinary centre of excellence conducting fundamental and translational life science research underpinning health and food security. The School is one of eight Schools in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences.
We welcome applications from candidates who hold an SCQF Level 10 (Honours degree) for grade 6 and Level 12 (PhD) for grade 7 in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline or equivalent.
