This exciting post in the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science offers the opportunity for an individual to play a key role in the delivery of the School’s Engineering degrees and to help drive forward the School’s portfolio of research and commercial activities. The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer with experience and expertise in two or more of the following areas:
Main duties & responsibilities
To undertake teaching and assessment in engineering modules, at undergraduate and ultimately at postgraduate level, in Engineering in support of subject areas across in the School. You will be required to support learning through the development of course materials, including online content, as well as undertaking necessary administrative, tutorial and laboratory activities in addition to supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects. You will be required to engage in research and commercial consultancy activity in manufacturing processes; the role also includes the building of partnerships with external organisations for the purpose of sponsorship and knowledge transfer activities.
Skills and experience needed
The appointee will have sufficient expertise and experience to be able to contribute to the teaching of Bachelors and Masters degree programmes in Engineering with emphasis on design and build activity with CAD and CAE, manufacturing technology, Operations Management, and Project Management within our Mechanical and Automotive Engineering programmes. Experience working in a relevant industry sector or in the Engineering subject areas within Higher Education is desirable and previous experience in teaching or tutoring at undergraduate level would be an advantage.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential requirements for this role. This role requires applicants to have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a methodical approach and high attention to detail.
Qualifications required
You will have a first degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or associated subject areas, working towards membership of a Professional Institution. The School supports until registration for CEng plus the first four years membership of one of the Professional, statutory and regulatory bodies (RAeS, IET or IMechE) membership fee so that you can get the CEng registration.
