Salary: £23,000–£25,000 per annum depending on skills and experience
Merton College invites applications from enthusiastic and dedicated individuals for the position of Library Assistant. This is a career opportunity for someone interested in gaining experience working in a small but lively academic library. The role would suit someone embarking on, or completing, a professional library qualification via a distance-learning or part-time route (for which the College offers financial support).
The College Library and Archives function as a single department providing learning and research resources and services for approximately 610 students, other members of the College, the wider international research community, and the public. The library operates over two sites: a world-famous historic library building and the Edwardian Old Warden’s Lodgings. This is an exciting time to join the library team, as the College has recently embarked on a project to build a new library.
The Library Assistant is responsible for a number of essential reader services and collection management duties, supporting the work of the other Library and Archive staff. They are the first point of contact for readers using the College library. There is also scope within the role to develop projects and initiatives, especially in relation to aspects of professional training. All members of the team assist researchers with enquiries and onsite use of the historic library and archive collections of the College.
The duties and skills/attributes required for this role, and benefits offered to all college staff are described in more detail in the Further Particulars. These are available at http://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/about-merton/vacancies
