We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive Automotive technician to join our innovative technical manufacturing team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support and manufactured parts for the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Science and the wider University.
The Technical Team prides itself on delivering customer service excellence with a passion for science and engineering. The University technicians provide an agile technical support and manufacturing service to staff and students to support teaching, research and professional services. Surrey University’s growing strength in research and innovation makes a real contribution to the global challenges of our time.
In this role, you will contribute to the provision of a sector leading technical service and you will work with the Formula Student Society racing team (SURTES) as they develop and race a small-scale formula style EV racing car. Electric Vehicle knowledge is essential for this role.
You will provide EV technical support to the Faculty’s Formula Student race team during design, build, test, and race phases. This will involve some flexible hours during the peak assembly and testing phases, from the months of May up until race day, mid-July. Other duties will be to support the 2nd year UG Design, Manufacture and Evaluate course and to support Automotive Academics when not involved with Formula Student.
You will ensure that the FS Society team’s practical activities are conducted in a safe manner and guide the students through a real-life Total Quality Managed process of Design, Manufacture, Assemble, de-bug and compete, just as a real-life F-One team would.
The role also involves liaising with FEPS manufacturing teams (welding, electrical/electronics, mechanical workshops) to ensure that the team’s work requests are submitted in a timely manner, and that project deadlines can be met.
