SEMH Teaching Assistant

Full time/ Term Time

£75 to £90 per day

Veritas are working with a Mainstream Secondary school with a variety of stucents including those Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH) and behavioural challenges. The school are looking for experienced teaching assistants who understand the methods and techniques used to over come challenging barriers which occur amongst children with SEMH. The school caters for a range of needs which also includes pupils with ASD, challenging behaviour, looked after children (LAC) and will have an EHCP. The role will be suited to you if you have had experience with students in a school setting or in a youth work setting where children come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Role and responsibilities-

• Organise availability of resources/equipment including maintenance of IT equipment
• Work closely with other staff and teachers to maintain the behaviour of students using positive support.
• Ensure pupils are supported regarding any concerns they have in a mentor role model sense.
• Build positive relationships with pupils
• Maintain contact with teachers, management and the office regarding any events and issues which arise.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs.
• Must have experience working with children in a school setting, youth work or similar setting.
• Must have a thorough understanding of safeguarding and positive handling.
• Subject to Enhanced DBS Check and satisfactory references.
